Ada B Q&A

Q). How things with you?
Good thank you.
Q). Where did the whole Ada B journey all begin?
From 9 years old, singing and writing in my bedroom. I didn’t even think I could sing as I always thought having a deep raspy voice meant I couldn’t. Turns out I just needed some practice and really to work on my self belief. I doubted myself and over-thought too much. So despite all those years of practising in my room, I never released a song until 2017. That’s when I finally had the confidence to be Ada B.
Q). Your single ‘So Beautiful’ is available now. How has the response for that been?
It’s been good so far. I know it could have been better had there been less turbulence trying to release it and with the right support. Nonetheless God has been faithful in providing the necessary, so it is still getting a pretty positive reception, so I’m not complaining.
Q). Whats it like being in the studio with Ada B?
I have a set up at home, so most of the time it’s just me ‘vibing’ with me, so I have complete freedom to create the environment I want to be in. If I do book studio time, it’s always a laugh because I like to have a good time. However, it is important to me that in between all the laughs, the job we’ve come to do is done and done well. I sometimes come without much prepared because I like that space and time in the studio to influence the vibe and outcome of the song.
Q). How would you describe your sound?
R&B/Neo soul is my sound for sure - those are the genres I grew up on and love dearly. However you can surely trace elements of pop, dance and jazz in there also.
Q). Is there anybody who you would love to do a track with?
Too many but the top of my list for years has been Tank because I just feel he would push me to deliver my best vocal performance on the song but also write some of the best Gospel I’ve ever heard. His pen game is no joke.
Q). Who is your biggest influence?
Hard to pin point because there are many - however I’d be lying if I said Chris Brown doesn’t have the largest influence on me. He is a whole package in my opinion. So, even before I started singing, I always knew that I wanted to be a whole package also, I just didn’t believe in myself enough.
Q). Why did you choose to get into the music industry?
The truth is I just wanted to share my story. I really just wanted to be heard. That was why I started.
I loved listening to some of the greats and hearing how they would share their stories, with what felt like so little effort and yet, have me listening to them in rotation. How their voices would light up a room and get people on their feet just through awesome story telling (and vocals of course). I wanted to do that. As I started this journey in my mid 20s some could say I’m late to the game but I honestly feel right on time especially as I feel that my confidence is at an all time high and investing/improving my craft is more important to me now than it would have ever been before. I am looking forward to sharing my story, my love for God and His awesomeness worldwide but for now I’m enjoying all the steps necessary to get there.
Q). What would you say is your biggest achievement in music so far?
It’s not my biggest achievement but definitely my favourite - being nominated for two awards. I think that’s pretty cool for someone who never even knew she could sing to begin with.
Q). What can we expect from you for the rest of the year?
Another single and music video and more shows. Really excited to show people how much fun walking with God is!
Q). Do you have any social media for new fans to follow you?
Absolutely - you can find me on Instagram/Twitter @iamadab and on TikTok @its.AdaB <3
