RapXchange Q&A

Q). Hows things with you?
Things are great with us at RXC (RapXchange). We are an Indie UK Boombap HipHop label in Hayes London doing music, videos & shows how we want it done. We making hella noise rightcha bout now!
Q). Where did the whole RapXchange journey all begin?
It all began at UB4 (Studio) in Hayes with DTN (Dantian Collective) a group of me (KG-Chi) x Mista-E x Zedi x Ay Em (producer). We began the RapXchange journey officially from the release of DTN debut album INITIUM in May 2019. Album is dope with features like USA’s Planet Asia, Ruste Juxx, RIM (Davillins) & UK’s Micall Parknsun, AnyWay Tha God x Joker Starr (The Jones Brothers). This debut album got ill production from Architect & Kyo Itachi, plus my music PnC Sub One. Go check it out Yo!
Q). Your single ‘Boxcutter’ is available now. Tell us more about that?
First of all shout out to our brother Micall Parknsun (or Uncle Parky, the only guy younger than me I call Uncle).
He produced the dope joint. Go check IG @parkypix for that beat fire. 🔥🔥🔥
S/O WAR (@warrenbelle84) for the dope video shoot and edit.
Then my MC PnC WhoDat (@kingwhodat) who had the vision for us to shoot this joint in UB4 putting our Hayes side-of-things on the map. We mad talented out here.
When me (@iamkgchi) and WhoDat laid this joint down in UB4 we new instantly visuals were needed. We working out here!
Q). Whats it like being in the studio with RapXchange?
Yo the full RXC crew is mad active in the UB4 lab. Always something new coming whenever we link up. We got a weekly ritual starting from Friday through the weekend.
At anytime Billie Splyff (@billiesplyff_aka_mistaspyce) x AnyWay Tha God (@gawdsandlawds) x Zedi (@officialzedi) x Mista-E (@mistaefromdtn) x Chantel Angelina (@chantell_angelina) x Fuzzie Bars (@fuzziebarz_official) x U.F.O Bandzz (@ufobandzz_) could be in the lab and whoever is in some new 🔥🔥🔥 ish is being put together.
We all creative, innovative, talented and develop organic real HipHop flames.
Q). How would you describe your sound?
Our sound is that authentic real raw Boombap HipHop. That 90s sound but with a modern feel. We are not pigeon-holed into one sound as there is a wide-spectrum within the group of RXC artists we have and peoples we work with on production.
If I was to sum up the RXC sound in one word it would be AUTHENTIC.
Q). Is there anybody who you would love to do a track with?
Honestly I am happy with building RXC within the camp of my talented Brothers & Sisters at UB4.
We all have individual contacts outside the camp who are extended fam so if we do collab its with peoples we class as fam.
We dont do the clout-chasing collab ting. If RXC work with someone its because its organic and fam-based.
Q). Who is your biggest influence?
My biggest influences came in my youth growing up listening to Big Daddy Kane x Public Enemy x X-Clan x Ultramagnetic MCs x Tribe Called Quest x Boot Camp Clik x EPMD x Brand Nubian x Redman x Biggie x Wutang Clan x Mobb Deep.
I know this list is predominately NYC, East Coast thats where it all started. If we going Westcoast then NWA off-the-bat Snoop Dogg x Tupac.
London Posse did they thing for the UK still and also Hijack was dope.
Im an 80s baby so grew up when HipHop was an Infant and I was a likkle yout growing with it!
Q). Why did you choose to get into the music industry?
Freedom of expression. The World where what you say matters to someone who can relate. This is why for me the music genre of HipHop is one of the most free-forms of audio/visual art (alongside Jazz & Classical).
Q). What would you say is your biggest achievement in music so far?
Performing alongside and opening for many of the great iconic names in HipHop.
The RXC list is long in such a short space of time. We have performed with & opened shows for Onyx, Das Efx, Heltah Skeltah (Bernadette & Rockness, RIP Sean P), Smif-N-Wessun, RA The Rugged Man, Beatnuts, Jeru The Damaja, Group Home, Lacoka Nostra to name a few.
And we performed in Stockholm, Bucharest and of course UK in venues like The Jazz Cafe, New Cross Inn & Chip Shop.
In a short space of time and off our own independant backs we have accomplished so much (with much more to come).
Q). What can we expect from you for the rest of the year?
We always producing new material so there is a conveyor belt of product coming off the RXC UB4 production line.
End of this month we got the part 2 to 2020 LOCKDOWN FIRSTWAVE. What happened was RXC really connected during Covid and whilst everyone was isolating at home we were hibernating in the UB4 lab. S/O to our departed brother ShoXstar (RIP) who was a big part of that period of RXC building.
Long short we made 2020 LOCKDOWN (10 joints from 20 we recorded). So these next 10 is part 2 what we calling 22 UNLOCKED.
It will be dropping this OCTOBER 28TH so go check it!
