Teck-Zilla Q&A

Q). How things with you?

Not bad at all, always working so yeah, keeping busy is the best thing to stay good.

Q). Where did the whole Teck-Zilla journey all begin?

I don’t even know where to start. I reckon it started in the 90s as a kid listening to the music my older siblings played around the house which developed my interest in rap/hip-hop. I started out writing rhymes and rapping in high school but didn’t start producing until the mid-2000s and I haven’t looked back since. The journey took me from Lagos Nigeria to London, Uk to Montreal, Canada. I must say it’s been a helluva journey and is still ongoing.

Q). Your single ‘Los Tres Grandes’ feat. John Jiggs, Revalation & Nolan The Ninja is available now. How has the response to that been?

Oh, it has been lovely for sure. I have been a fan of all 3 emcees for a while and when the chance came up to work with them, I jumped at it. The trio really poured their heart into the record and I can’t thank them enough also shouts to all the DJs and Spotify playlisters who have been supporting it.

Q). Whats it like being in the studio with Teck-Zilla?

First things first, it’s all about focus and intention. I don’t get into the studio to horse around. I like everyone to be comfortable as much as possible and be free to express themselves artistically. In a nutshell, once you get in the studio with me, you will get the results you need not the results you want.

Q). How would you describe your sound?

I’d say it’s a mix of everything. I am influenced by a handful of genres and styles and life of course. From hiphop/soul/r&b/reggae/funk/rock to cartoons/films,anime/video games so let’s say it’s a potpourri of life in general.

Q). Is there anybody who you would love to do a track with?

There are so many but at this time, I’d say Benny the Butcher.

Q). Who is your biggest influence?

I do have a ton of influences but to make things short, it has to be DJ Premier.

Q). Why did you choose to get into the music industry?

I really don’t have a direct answer to that. I just happen to make music, work with people and conduct my business in the music industry. I actually have 1 step in and out because I am also a trained Analytical Chemist so I had a 9 to 5 for a while but now I am fully focused on this music thing

Q). What would you say is your biggest achievement in music so far?

Hmm, I do see every win as an achievement but for me, the biggest is being recognized by the artists I looked up to as a kid. That right there trumps everything else.

Q). What can we expect from you for the rest of the year?

More music, probably some beat tapes and more music.

Q). Do you have any social media for new fans to follow you?

yes, please follow me
