Yung Flaco Q&A

Q). How things with you?

Things are going good. My family, friends (especially my bestfriend and manager), Melon Maid as a whole, and my girlfriend all keep me in check. Getting music done, sending them new experimental stuff ive been working on. Its all coming together.

Q). Where did the whole Yung Flaco journey all begin?

At 12-13 years old i remember writing little songs to instrumentals and other music. There was a time in middle school i was in detention and i got caught writing lyrics. The detention guy took them, made a copy cause it had swear words in it and sent it to the principal. That was the first time that i think my parents found out i wrote at all. From then it was a little break and i went off to wrestle in college in Cleveland, Ohio. I had freedom and wanted to start doing music. I went to a walmart actually met a rapper who sold me a starter mic and the whole set up for like 25 bucks (shout out RtheCzar!!) from there i dropped “12 in the Stu” on soundcloud with a wrestling teammate of mine and from there on it was history!!

Q). Your single ‘Magic Carpet’ feat. Augustine is available now. How has the response for that been?

"Magic Carpet" was my breakout as an artist i feel. I was always rapping and dropping hip hop but growing up i was always around different types of music (R&B, Indie, Rock, latino music) so naturally i was drawn to vocal work. With help from my fellow Melon Maid teammate PJ Washington (check out “Fuck the bed up” on all playforms now) i was able to finally let out my singing voice. Im expanding. Becoming more of an artist than before.

Q). Whats it like being in the studio with Yung Flaco?

Honestly studio time with me is just fun. Have fun with it. Yes create a great song. Yes actually try. But i think once you look at music as a task, it loses its magic. This music is my therapy. It should be like that for every artist who does this.

Q). How would you describe your sound?

I think now my sound is spacey singy rap. Ive been breaking into the singing realm recently and its fun. It is creating a different lane for me to ride in and incorporate into my music!

Q). Is there anybody who you would love to do a track with?

Ive been saying this since my music started but Coldplay, Danger Incorporated, and Corbin (AKA Spooky Black) FOR SUREEEEE. They have a huge inspiration in my music and if i got the chance to get in a studio with ANY OF THEM i would make the most of it.

Q). Who is your biggest influence?

My biggest influences are Chris Martin of Coldplay and XXXTentacion. Chris and X both just made music they love. They don’t care what people think. Its their art. Their fanbase will hear what they put out and thats what I’ve put into my music. Those who like my music, like my art.

Q). Why did you choose to get into the music industry?

Poetry. I was big into poetry and just rhymes in general. Once i was done competing in wrestling i saw the similarities in the struggles an artist goes through compared to the struggles a wrestler goes through. Having patience, discipline, the continuous self drive. Being on stage with 10 people in the crowd felt the same way i felt wrestling in the state finals in front of 10000 people. Trying to have a perfect six minutes against another person feels the same as trying to have a perfect 15 min set.

Q). What would you say is your biggest achievement in music so far?

My biggest achievement so far is my show “ShortFeSt”. It was my first show that i brought together artists in my area (rappers, RnB, Indie, EDM) and it went amazing. It got my name out there as an artist and a show coordinator. It made me wanna make this years ShortFeSt even bigger.

Q). What can we expect from you for the rest of the year?

Work work work. Nothing less.
