Kahlee Q&A

Q). How things with you?

I’m great man. Kids just started school. Family and I are staying healthy. Almost finished building my new studio. I’m blessed af.

Q). Where did the whole Kahlee journey all begin?

Tough question to answer without a mic and 3 hour podcast episode so I’ll keep it specific to my raps. I started freestyling in high school. When I’d go to parties I would see people cypher and I wanted to be apart of it. I can remember my big brother’s homie, Brazy freestyle in my garage and my homeboy, Jammal’s big bro was a Project Blowed emcee. Plus with the Roadium Swap-meet down the street the hip-hop was all around me. So I started rhyming…

Q). Your single ‘Intentions’ feat. El Blue is available now. How has the response for that been?

The response has been great. I don’t have thousands of listeners but I’ve been surprised at who’s been reaching out about it. Lately I’ve been focused on some grown folks shit as far as content goes, and I’m noticing people really fuckin with it.

Q). Whats it like being in the studio with Kahlee?

A vast majority of the music I have released and will release over the next year was written at my 9-5 job and recorded in my home studio. When I do get to vibe with a producer or other artists in the lab, I’m doing more clowning around than working since I barely go anywhere. I’m either at work or at home with the fam, so when I’m away, I’m trying to combine all the things I love which is basically music, laughs and deep conversations.

Q). How would you describe your sound?

I don’t typically try to describe my sound. But Content wise I can say it’s some actual real shit that most people can relate to. I’ll definitely flex that barchitecture often, but for the most part it’s that grown folks talk. It’s always clever lyricism and I’m trying to take you on a journey visually.

Q). Is there anybody who you would love to do a track with?

There’s a lot fo dope emcees and producers I wanna work with, but I’m looking forward to doing a track with Black Thought most.

Q). Who is your biggest influence?

I can’t say any one artist sticks out overall. Dilated Peoples always been big being from LA and having a graffiti background. I went to my first HipHop show to see Lootpack. I discovered Cali Agents there and bumped How the West Was Won til the CD skipped. Over the years I’ve loved lyricists from Chino XL, Pharoahe Monch & Brother Ali to Black Thought, Murs & Slug. I like different artist for different reasons and feel like they all play a small role in what I’ve become musically.

Q). Why did you choose to get into the music industry?

I don’t know that I’m actually “in” the music industry. LoL. When I started rhyming it was strictly to cypher. It was competitive and fun. There was a time where the goal was to get signed by a label and tour the world. I’m definitely still open to that and will continue to perform and tour, but I’ve really tapped in to creating music that people can relate to and gain something from, whatever that is.

Q). What would you say is your biggest achievement in music so far?

My biggest achievement hasn’t happened yet, but being able to live comfortably with my family and still have fun creating and releasing music independently is great. Also creating a platform and throwing shows for local artists in San Diego was big. Definitely a dope contribution to the hip-hop community that spawned new artists and promoters who also push the scene forward.

Q). What can we expect from you for the rest of the year?

My Bars Weekly freestyle videos will continue to drop every Wed for the entirety of 2022. The Bars Weekly Radio show every Tuesday at 10pm PST on Delicious Vinyl/DASH Radio. I have a couple eps and singles I’ll be dropping before the year’s up as well as a few features coming soon.

I made a lot of music this year and did more features then ever and now working with a few dope producers on the next releases. So you can expect to hear records produced by Cookbook, Ralph Quasar, El Blue and ManZu Beats and a couple others very soon.

Q). Do you have any social media for new fans to follow you?

www.BarsWeekly.com is the easiest way to connect with everything Im doing but when in doubt, no matter the platform it’s everything @Kahlee310
