Blue City CDF Q&A

Q). How things with you?
All good man thanks! Been a crazy busy few months. Getting back on track from constant, non stop work! Hows things with you?
Q). Where did the whole Blue City CDF journey all begin?
So, we've both been writing from an early age, I've personally done a few shows and worked with different people over the years, but stopped after my son was born. Had a good 6 years out from anything music related. Lockdown hit and we decided to get creative again, so we linked up for an EP which just expanded into us becoming a duo. Its been mad.
Q). Your album ‘Anamnesis’ is available now. How has the response for that been?
Unbelievable! To get praise from some of the UK's leading media outlets and artists is unbelievable! Pitch 92 from High Focus loved the album and has become a good friend of ours. Random people who heard the album have since become fans and follow what we do. Its been great. Way better than we could ever imagine!
Q). Whats it like being in the studio with Blue City CDF?
Busy! Haha. We are constantly throwing ideas around and pushing eachother to do better. We work with Jamie Winchester who manages Tremendous and Lady Leshur and his in put is always ridiculously valuable. We just enjoy our studio sessions and get our heads down to make the best music we possibly can!
Q). How would you describe your sound?
Boombap with a little commercial element. We are obsessed with the soulful sound that comes with some boombap. Especially the styles of Dilla and 9th Wonder. Its just our jam!
Q). Is there anybody who you would love to do a track with?
Res One! Without a shadow of doubt. The guy is just phenomenal and easily one of the best in the UK. We've also recently discovered Bradford based trio Flame Griller who are very much our sound! Would love to get those guys on a track! There are too many to mention!
Q). Who is your biggest influence?
We have so many. From all the UK boom bap heads to original US pioneers. In all honesty, its a case of how much time do you have for us to reel them off? Haha.
Q). Why did you choose to get into the music industry?
We've both been writing tracks for around 17 years. Jay Rede was doing shows and performances back in the day as early as 2006, but had a full music hiatus for 5 years when he had his son in 2014. Formal has been writing since he was 15 years old but never put anything out until Blue City CDF's first single in 2020. I guess its just a thing that most people were doing when we were teenagers. Rapping over the park with your mates on a Friday night, hiphop battle rap forums etc. Its just something we loved to do and still love to do.
Q). What would you say is your biggest achievement in music so far?
For us, everything we do is a bit of a milestone or an achievement. We had a collaboration with Akil the MC of Jurassic 5 on our 2nd EP with Mr Substance so that was a huge thing to do! We also opened the stage for Jam Baxter in our home City and are set to do the same for Lee Scott and Black Josh.. Some of the biggest names in UK HipHop which is massive for us.
Q). What can we expect from you for the rest of the year?
The rest of this year we are kind of focusing on promoting Anamnesis and getting gigs or working on getting festival slots for next year. We may drop a single or two towards the end of the year but we'll be back in the studio around October / November to start work on the next project which is produced fully by Pitch92 of High Focus.
Q). Do you have any social media for new fans to follow you?
Yeah, we are @bluecitycdf on all socials. Comment or message us, we always try to message back and fully appreciate all the support we get!
