K-Saulz Q&A

Q). How things with you?

Yeh all good thanks man. Been a busy year music wise and personally. I woukd say It has been a challenging year with plenty of ups and downs but on a whole I'm in a good place right now.

Q). Where did the whole K-Saulz journey all begin?

I started my musical journey as a Jungle / Drum and Bass DJ at 13 years old then moving onto DnB MCing as MC Animal from around the year 2000,  Performing on pirate radio stations and DnB events.

This evolved into an interest in music production which led to me doing a HND in Music Technology at Reading College.

I was always into Hip Hop growing up and even when I used to MC to Drum and Bass my writing and flows were always of a more Hip Hop style and tempo so it was quite a natural transition into it. The rest is history

Q). Your single ‘Stranger’ with Diffhop & feat. Harkos is available now. How has the response for that been?

To be honest not as great as I had expected or wanted. It's a strange one. ( excuse the pun ha ha ) music is subjective I guess but songs or projects I expect to do well don't and vice versa.

Q). Whats it like being in the studio with K-Saulz?

Of course I would say it's awesome and a life changing experience but then again I am an MC and we are all slightly deluded and mental so ha ha.

No on the real my work flow and process differs depending on who I am in the studio with or if I am recording on my own and obviously the song too.

I am a pretty easy going dude and I like to think easy to work with as I don't get wound up very easily and can take constructive criticism well in order to get the best outcome for the song .

I think for me writing and bouncing ideas back and forth with another writer or producer is priceless but I rarely get the chance to get in the studio with other artists and producers these days but it's one of my favourite things to do when the opportunity arises.

Ive been known to travel hundreds of miles across the country to get in the studio with another artist/ producer just to have that face to face contact and experience.

Q). How would you describe your sound?

I would say predominantly I am a Boombap MC and my wheelhouse and where I feel I shine is on the laid back Jazzy style Hip Hop of Tribe Called Quest or DJ Premier.

Q). Is there anybody who you would love to do a track with?

Chester P

Q). Who is your biggest influence?

Too many names spring to mind but I would say Blade was the reason I decided to take MCing seriously and take it up a notch

Q). Why did you choose to get into the music industry?

I was always into the arts in one shape or form as a child.

I would spend hours writing my own stories and animating them which then led onto me persuing art as my chosen path and subject.

Unfortunately due to the education system sucking the fun out of art for me it wasn't any suprise that when I got introduced to DJing and mixing as a teenager it filled that creative void that I felt I was slowly losing.

Q). What would you say is your biggest achievement in music so far?

Being offered to perform at Boomtown Festival this year by the label I'm signed to 'Bard Picasso'.

Although unfortunately I wasn't able to due to family commitments to even be considered was an absolute honour considering I am on a label of 30 or so incredible artists and only a handful got the chance to perform there.

Q). What can we expect from you for the rest of the year?

My aim and goal at the start of this year was to drop at least a single, EP or Album every month in 2022.

I have acheived this so far.

I have an album dropping with Risk1 in October.

A single to promote the album in September.

In November I am releasing an EP with an incredibly talented production and MC duo World Of Ghosts which I'm super excited about as It's totally different to the usual style people are used to hearing me on and it's been so much fun putting it together.

December. Not too sure yet but I have a bunch of music stacked up and some collaborations and singles in the works so we will see.
